The next release cycle after 17.08 An upcoming version will see the release of the "Embedded" version of 8th, which will include support for "AGL" (automotive-grade Linux) at first, and will eventually include many embedded platforms.  The "Embedded" version includes all features of the "Professional", but expands support for embedded targets.

Because this version will include everything the Professional version does and more, it will be more expensive (exact price point TBD, but certainly more than twice the Professional price).

The promotion is:  from right now until such time as "Embedded" is released, anyone who purchases (or upgrades to) the Professional version may receive (if so desired) the Embedded version without paying extra for it.  As an extra bonus, your year of updates will be extended to a year after the Embedded version is released.

If you don't take advantage of this promotion and you want the Embedded version, you'll end up paying the considerably higher price.  So act now and save!

N.B.: If you were one of the chosen few who supported our initial e8th board effort, you will receive the Embedded version gratis as a token of our appreciation.

The initial platform is "AGL", so whatever boards that runs on, it will too (RPI3 among others)

How long (in rough units) before Embedded is released and this offer evaporates?

Once this is purchased, pre-Embedded, will updates be 49$ always and forever, or ramped up to whatever the then-applicable Embedded level is?

The update refresh price will be set at the level for the new SKU. Yet to be determined.

If I quite understand, we are still waiting for the "embedded Version of 8th".
As I have just purchased the 8th "Hobbyist Version", I wonder:
If I upgrade, right now, from the Hobbyist Version toward the Professional Version, what will be the fee to do it ?
... and, in my case of just making an upgrade (from Hobbyist to Professional) ... instead of a full purchase of a new Professional one ... , will I get automatically the free upgrade to the embedded Version as soon as it's released ? Thanks for your answer(s).

Good questions...

Yes, the Embedded version's development has been considerably slowed due to my having to travel abroad and take care of family matters.  Mostly, that's over now, and I'm resuming the work on this version.  So it will be sometime hopefully soon, but there remains some significant bits to work on.

Regarding your second question: if you upgrade from Hobbyist to Professional now, you will be able to get the free upgrade to Embedded.  The price is the difference in price between the two versions, and will be displayed when you select the version to upgrade to.
